Darwin has a new Lord Mayor, Kon Vaskalis in a close battle with the previous incumbent Katrina Fong Lim. Darwin Lord Mayor's have a chequered track record on trees, here's hoping that Kon leans towards the George Brown theory of trees in the Top End.

Development Investment in the NT
The Northern Territory Government is looking for 250 new or near new homes in the NT over the next two years. In an arrangement that looks similar to defence housing the developer/investor gets a guaranteed market interest rate (at commencement) for 6 years with a further 3 year option. NTG then lets the properties to low income and other disadvantaged citizens and charges 16% management fees. The properties are returned in good order after the lease term. It will be interesting to see if there is appetite for investment properties of this type in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
